If Sodom and Gomorrah is supposed to prove that God condemns gay relationships, then we need to ask a basic question:
Where in that story is the loving gay relationship?
It isn’t there.
In Genesis 19, the story is about a mob threatening sexual violence against strangers. It is about coercion, humiliation, domination, and abuse.
That is very different from a loving, committed same-sex relationship.
Later, Ezekiel 16:49 describes Sodom in terms of pride, excess, and failure to help the poor and needy. The next verse also speaks of “abominations,” so I’m not claiming there was no sexual wickedness there. There clearly was.
But sexual violence is not the same thing as homosexuality.
This is why context matters.
For years, stories like this were used to convince people like me that being gay made us fundamentally unacceptable to God.
So I’m going back to the passages.
Not ignoring them.
Not running from them.
Actually reading them.
