Choosing Peace Doesn’t Mean Staying Silent
Can we speak honestly about what hurt us and still speak with love? That’s what I’m reflecting on tonight.
Tomorrow, October 6, at 6 p.m. Eastern, my interview with Steve Pynnaker on Mormon Book Reviews will be released. We talk about my journey through The Church of Jesus Christ (Bickertonite), being gay, and finding a faith community where Tom and I can belong openly.
I haven’t seen the finished interview yet, and I’m nervous. My former church shaped much of my life. There are people there I still love, meaningful experiences I cherish, and painful parts of my story that deserve to be heard.
My hope is that this conversation helps someone feel less alone and encourages churches to listen with compassion.
I’m learning that choosing peace can include telling the truth—with care, with love, and with hope for change.
Darkness may be part of the journey, but it doesn’t have to be the destination. Light Heals.
